Horseback riding in New Zealand can be an exciting experience. There are an abundance of wildlife to see in various regions of the vast wilderness. There’s no need however to enter the deep wilderness to see some of New Zealand’s natural wild inhabitants.

Whether riding a horse in the lush forests, out in the countryside, or along the shoreline, it’s captivating to see fascinating bird species, such as the native albatross and other sea birds. It’s awesome to trot along the beaches of New Zealand and gaze upon the penguins that live along the shore. These flightless sea birds are adorable and curious, occasionally wandering over to a horseback rider to investigate.

Riding along the countryside it’s not unusual to find the black robin chirping contentedly in the warm New Zealand sun. While experiencing a relaxing horseback ride out in the woodlands, there is nothing more sweeter than hearing the melodious sound of a bellbird as it chirps in the distance. The olive green colors of the bellbird is equally captivating.

Travel deep into the woods on horseback in New Zealand and it’s not unusual to encounter a few varieties of lizards. Skinks are pretty cool, but the cutest of all are the geckos. Finding these creatures while on horseback on one of New Zealand’s mainland islands is tempting enough to want to tame one for a pet. It’s best to resist that temptation however, as these reptiles do belong in the wild.

Horseback riding is a great way to get into the back country and visit areas that you wouldn’t normally see when on vacation travel rides. Horses have a unique personality just like other animals (and people!). When you stay calm, the horse stays calm.

When horseback riding for vacation travel in New Zealand remember to only take the essentials. You need to leave at home your extras. You can take a cell phone and a jacket, but make sure the jacket is easily rolled up and light weight. A hat is also a good idea. Take water and snack foods such as energy bars or dried fruit and nuts. Leave your food that needs to be warmed at home, leave your heavy books and unnecessary items at home.

Keep in mind the ease of packing and unpacking, and also the horse. Make sure you have a proper backpack or saddle type bags. Leave your heavy luggage or excessive packs at home. You should have good sturdy shoes or boots that will keep your feet secure in the stirrups. Leave your sandals and flimsy shoes that can’t get wet at home.

Enjoy the ride and the fresh aire, and leave unncessary items at home.

As with any type of trip, there are some necessities to bring on your horseback riding trip. Taking the time to prepare and bring along items that may be of use, can make a fun trip also a safe trip. Planning ahead can help minimize potential problems.

When trying to decide what to bring along, you may have many questions. Take into consideration the location, weather conditions and other possible issues. If you will be traveling in an area where bug bites and other flying pests are everywhere, bring along bug spray and anti-itch medicines. Find out if there are any poisonous snakes or other venomous creatures in the area and plan accordingly.

Make sure that you carry a small first aid kit with basic supplies. You can also add items to it that may be relevant or potentially necessary. Have a safety plan in place before you head out on the trial. Bring along a cell phone that is fully charged and in working condition.

Have plenty of water and food snacks that are high in protein. These can come in handy if you find you have lost your way or end up being out longer than planned. These are all important necessities to bring with you on your horseback trip.

It’s going to be the vacation of a life time and though it may be expensive you can really save yourself some trouble by doing some prep work ahead of time.
Get the House Ready: You’ll be gone for a while since New Zealand is quite a haul so make sure you call the neighbors and set your Home security systems. Have someone water the plants and care for the pets, too.
Research Some Riding Facilities: There are tons of different ways to horseback ride in NZ including for tourism, volunteerism and just to exercise the animals. Research stables in your area to find out who has the best program for what you’re looking for.
Practice: Don’t head out on the trip of a lifetime without having ridden in a while. Get on your horse at home or pay for a lesson – it will be well worth it when you’re headed through the Kiwi mountains and not sore as all get out!

Take a reflective journey to the island of the white cloud. Ride the trails of the ancient Maori people. Their descendants live on, and are friendly toward tourists. Share in the richness of their beautiful lands. Travel by horseback, along the long white sandy beach. Take some time to splash in the waves of the surf. Plan to stay a night, under the eternal stars that guide all beings. New Zealand is a land of contrasts. There are vivid scenic displays around every bend. Feel the primitive beat of the land beneath the horses’ hooves. Relax in the gentle rhythm of the waves.
Experience the joys of watching dolphins frolic and play. Riding is like a race against time itself. This journey, into quiet pine forests, is a soul searching one. Rediscover the passion of living life free and happy. Feel welcomed and warm, while learning of old traditions. Try to find the edge of the endless azure blue sky. This is one horseback tour that is well worth the ride. Generally, the group is small and friendly. Find your innermost yearnings within this primal land. Revel in this natural habitat of wildlife and greenery. Find your true inner self.

When considering to go on a vacation there are many factors to consider. For example, how do you want to relax? Do you want to go to the beach? Do you want to go to the mountains? Do you want to go to a theme park? Perhaps you would like to go hiking and camping to get away from the stress of your everyday life. Another thing to consider is the adventure. Are you interested in extreme sports, enjoying nature and doing fun activities with your friends or family. There are many destinations and activities to choose from, but one of the best ideas is to take a trip to New Zealand with your friends and family, explore the clear waters, the beautiful mountains, camp, and take the whole trip by traveling on horseback.

In New Zealand, there are a group of people called Kiwis that are accustomed to the land and accustomed to horseback riding. They know the land. They know the trails. They know the area.

Over one hundred unique species of birds live in New Zealand, and there is no better way to search for them than on horseback. Traveling by horse will allow visitors to quickly cover large areas of ground and spend all morning watching birds without tiring. Horseback riding is also one of the most ecologically friendly ways to explore New Zealand’s bird habitats. Children and adults alike can easily learn enough basic horseback riding skills to thoroughly enjoy the experience and stay safe. Experienced guides are also readily available to help tourists feel comfortable with their horses and to assist them in species identification.

As an island with no mammals other than bats, New Zealand has become home to an exceptionally wide variety of birds. Its ecologically diverse habitat has attracted terrestrial, wetland, and seabirds, many of which live nowhere else in the world. However, habitat loss has taken a toll on many of these populations. Numerous bird species in New Zealand are now threatened, and although conservation efforts are underway, those hoping to see the endangered kiwi or hear the beautiful song of the kokako should consider a bird watching tour of New Zealand by horseback for their next vacation.
